This hammered king ring builds upon my standard king ring with intricate cut out details and crown shape with a dimpled rippled hammered texture with diffuse radiance. I sawed the ring as a flat band with variable widths from 18 gauge sterling silver with a jewelry and cut the peak shapes in the center of the band and taped the far edges. Those cut out designs were created by drilling pilot holes, feeding the saw blade through the hole, and sawing out the shapes in a process known as pierce and cut. The flat metal ring form was then bent into a semi round shape with pliers and the two ends were aligned and soldered together with silver solder and an acetylene torch. I placed the semi round ring over a steel mandrel and hammered the metal into a perfectly round ring. The hammered texture is produced with three different sized ball hammers while the ring is on the mandrel. Now you might ask, why hammer the ring at the end? Well, the hammering causes the metal to expand, so I make a ring that is smaller than required and hammer until the ring expands to the correct ring size. This is why I absolutely need your correct ring size before constructing the ring.

The hammering process creates a very shiny polished surface that can be left shiny and I will just round and file the edges or I can tumble the ring in steel shot to smooth the edges, but the tumbling with further polish the ring, thereby creating even more shine. Since I was unsure of your finishing preferences, I left the edges rough in these photos. This king ring would also look amazing with a dark patina and just subtle accents of shine on the hammered surface.
